You might kill me for saying what I said or may even call me a grandfather. But seriously Blackberry's phone is pretty awesome.
Maybe I've been pampered quite a bit by the folks at Blackberry but speaking on the grounds of hardware and the phone's OS, I think its got material and content that stands out as being separate and at the same time be something that is easily relatable to.
Their hardware is also over standard and as a developer it is a big win for as I see no real device size fragmentation problems as I see only 2 device size to cater for. Only issue might be is that its not an small change between the size shifts, its bigger than huge.
Ah well, you've always got to live with some of them.
Games performance wise they are again pretty brilliant. Sometimes even better than the iOs and Android counterparts.
In terms of development, it certainly has got its perks with being pretty awesome on its performance but there are couple of issues.
Few the devs that I talk to have already complained that there are some shader supports not available on the device which is a major and huge bummer.
In terms of monetizing non paying players also a big mountain to climb on. The ad support on blackberry is pretty poor in general and weirdly so, the number of paying customers are also on the down low. Thankfully some folks I know are trying to fix that issues with a specific ad service and giving native control to Unity in particular since we work with that specifically.
What do you think??
Think Blackberry is a lost cause?
Think there is light at the end of the tunnel for Blackberry??
*Update: Just read that Blackberry has dropped 20 times than what the analyst were expecting. Well, seems like they are pretty screwed at the moment.
Hopefully things pan out for the better.
